Hey there!

Welcome to Avant Studio, a freelance photography business focusing on portraiture, editorial, and document visual media.

My name is Kennady Basdekis-Morin. For the last ten years, I have built Avant Studio from the ground up in an effort to explore humanity's sacred complexities, cultures, and traditions.

Originally from Houston, Texas, I  came to Austin to study at St. Edwards University alongside Professional Visual Artists such as Bill Kennedy, Melissa Miller, Sybil Miller, and Joe Vitone. During my time in Austin, I completed a Bachelor of Arts in photography, journalism, and graphic design at St. Edwards University.

I have served as Hilltop View's Life and Arts editor and as the publication's lead photo editor during my three-year term at the university. In addition to my visual achievements, I served as an Education Coordinator for the Equity & Justice Council and Director for Queer Student Mentorship. I also gained experience in a lead creative director role for UT Public Health's design internship in 2023.

My work has been published in various news and editorial outlets such as Cabra Magazine in Austin, TX, Paper City Magazine in Houston, TX, and the Austin Chronicle. Through my expertise, I am committed to understanding the human experience and exploring how we make sense of the visual world around us, as stories unfold with each shutter click.

I am continuing to master my craft by honing in on capturing the raw and subtle moments with technical precision and ease. This can be seen in my work's versatility and approach to various subject matter. When angling the frame, adjusting lighting, and displaying attention to detail and color, the intention is to emphasize how the eye registers an image and begins laying down the foundation for meaning.
